Description

This cheesy beef and biscuit bake is a hearty and delicious dish perfect for family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup white onion (diced)
  • 1 cup red bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 cup green bell pepper (diced)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl add the flour, baking powder, salt, milk, butter, and egg and whisk it together, then fold in the shredded cheese until combined. Set aside.
  3. Heat a large 12-inch oven-safe skillet on medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and bell peppers and cook until browned. Drain any extra fat.
  4. Add in the brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, salt, red pepper flakes, tomato sauce, and ketchup. Simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
  5. You can pour the meat mixture into a 9×13 baking dish if you don’t have an oven-safe skillet. Dollop the biscuit evenly over the top, spreading it out as best you can.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Serve!
