Description
A delightful treat made with saltine crackers, butter, brown sugar, chocolate, and cinnamon.
Ingredients
Scale
- 40 saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil, and spray lightly with nonstick cooking spray. Lay your saltine crackers in a single layer, edge to edge, covering the entire tray.
- Make the Toffee Layer: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly. Once it begins to bubble, let it boil for 3 minutes while stirring—this helps the toffee form that perfect brittle texture.
- Pour and Bake: Carefully pour the bubbling toffee over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula. Work quickly—it will begin to set. Slide the tray into the oven and bake for 5–7 minutes, just until the toffee is bubbly and absorbed into the crackers.
- Add Chocolate and Cinnamon Sugar: Remove the tray from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee. Let them sit for 2–3 minutes to melt, then spread the chocolate smoothly over the top. In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle this mixture generously over the melted chocolate layer while it’s still warm.
- Cool and Break: Let the tray cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then transfer it to the fridge to chill until fully set—usually 1 hour. Once firm, break into irregular pieces and serve.
